The Six Month Smiles® Process
The concept of the Six Month Smiles® process is similar to traditional metal braces, in that it uses steady pressure to move teeth into correct alignment. Patented Lucid-Lok® brackets and wire are lighter than metal braces, and exert gentle force to increase patient comfort. Meanwhile, they are clear, so they remain visually discreet.
At White Pine Dental Care, we begin every cosmetic dentistry procedure with an initial exam. It is important to ensure teeth and gums are healthy and ready for treatment. The dentist will also assess your candidacy for Six Month Smiles® at that time. Any decay or gum disease must be corrected before moving ahead with orthodontic treatment.
Six Month Smiles® does not correct functional bite problems or adjust back teeth. Because of this, the procedure is recommended for patients with less complex orthodontic issues. If your needs are beyond the scope of this method, you may be offered alternatives, such as ClearCorrect® aligners.
If your dentist determines that Six Month Smiles® is right for you, an impression will be made of your teeth and forwarded to a dental lab for fabrication. You will return to have your custom braces placed, and undergo regularly scheduled office visits until treatment is complete. The average time period is six months, with a range of three to nine months. Total treatment time will vary according to your needs and depend upon the complexity of the case.
