What Are Dental Bridges?
A dental bridge is a prosthetic that replaces a lost tooth or multiple missing teeth in a row. A traditional bridge consists of an artificial tooth (known as a pontic tooth) nestled between two dental crowns, which are supported by your natural teeth (called the abutment teeth). Our office offers both traditional dental bridges and bridges supported by dental implants. These restorations are available in various materials, such as porcelain. Our Utah dentists will work with you to choose the appropriate option for your needs.
A traditional bridge is made of a pontic tooth anchored by your abutment teeth. To qualify for a traditional bridge, you must have one healthy tooth on each side of the gap caused by missing teeth. Your natural teeth must be structurally sound, as they will be used to support the bridge.
With an implant-supported bridge, the crowns are attached to implants, which are surgically embedded in the jawbone to act as your tooth roots. An implant restoration offers all of the benefits of a traditional bridge, as well as added stability, security, and improved bone health.
