How to Tell If Invisalign Is Right for You

If you have all of your adult teeth, there is a good possibility that you are a candidate for Invisalign. During a consultation at our Murray or Herriman, UT, offices, our dentists will check for the following:

Mild to Moderate Misalignment

Clear aligners are designed to address mild-to-moderate misalignment. If you have severe malocclusion (misaligned teeth), braces offer a more effective solution for a straighter smile.

Good Oral Health

Tooth infections, decay, and gum disease need to be addressed before Invisalign treatment. Our dentists are skilled in all aspects of general dentistry and can help restore your oral health.

Invisalign is only effective if you wear your aligners for 22 hours each day. Successful candidates commit to wearing their aligners every day and following the guidance of their dentist. After your treatment is complete, you will have to wear retainers at night to keep your teeth aligned.

You Don't Need an Orthodontist to Correct Your Smile

Orthodontists are valuable for addressing severe oral issues, but an orthodontist isn't necessary to straighten milder misalignment with Invisalign. The dentists at White Pine Dental have the skills and experience to plan and carry out your treatment. If you're considering Invisalign and live near Salt Lake City, contact our dental offices in Murray or Herriman, Utah.

What to Expect With Invisalign

If you're interested in Invisalign, here's what you can expect when you visit our offices in Murray or Herriman, UT, for treatment:
Invisalign usually takes six to 18 months to complete.
Invisalign usually takes six to 18 months to complete.

During your consultation, our dentists in Murray and Herriman, UT, will take digital impressions of your teeth for precise mapping. If you have significant issues like decay, a root canal infection, or gum disease, our dentists will have to address these oral problems first. Once you're in good overall health, we will create an Invisalign treatment plan that is customized for you.

Creating Aligners

The digital impressions of your mouth are sent to a trusted dental lab to create your custom aligners. The typical Invisalign treatment includes about 20 to 30 aligners. The degree of misalignment in your teeth will determine the number of trays that are included in your treatment.

Wearing Aligners

For Invisalign to be effective, you need to wear your aligners for at least 22 hours a day. You will remove your aligners when you eat to prevent debris from getting stuck between them and your teeth. You also remove your aligners whenever you floss and brush your teeth.

Obtaining New Aligners

You switch to new aligners about every two weeks as your teeth become straighter. During periodic visits to our practice, our dentists will review your dental health to make sure treatment is progressing without any complications.

Caring for Your New Smile

After you complete your Invisalign treatment, there are a few easy steps you need to follow in order to maintain your new smile. In addition to  brushing at least twice a day and flossing daily, you should be:

Sleeping With Your Retainer

To keep your smile straight, you will wear a retainer at night. Usually, your last aligner can be used as your retainer. When you're not wearing your retainer, you should keep it in a protective case to keep them from being damaged or lost.

Maintaining Dental Appointments

No matter how diligent you are with your oral hygiene, it's still important to get a professional cleaning about every six months. This will also give you an opportunity to discuss any concerns you have about your teeth, gums, and oral health.
