What is a Dental Bridge?
A dental bridge is a prosthetic that replaces one or more missing teeth in a row. A bridge consists of an artificial tooth, nestled between two dental crowns. Our office offers both traditional dental bridges and implant-supported restorations. As these restorations are available in a variety of materials, including porcelain and metal, our doctors will work with you to choose the appropriate option for your unique needs.
To qualify for a traditional bridge, you must have one healthy tooth on each side of the gap caused by missing teeth. Your healthy teeth must be structurally sound, as they will be reshaped to support dental crowns.
As compared to a traditional bridge, an implant-supported bridge does not affect surrounding healthy teeth. Instead, the crowns are attached to dental implants, which are surgically embedded in the jawbone. This restoration offers all of the benefits of a traditional bridge, as well as added stability, security, and improved bone health. If you are receiving an implant-supported bridge, you will first need to undergo dental implant surgery to create a strong foundation for your prosthesis.
An Implant-Supported Restoration
At White Pine Dental, our doctors can provide patients with an implant-supported bridge to replace one or more consecutive missing teeth.
Dental Bridges at Our Practice
Depending on the size of the bridge and your oral health, we may be able to create and place your traditional restoration in a single appointment. After a thorough examination of your gums and surrounding teeth, we can determine if you qualify for a same-day bridge.
Depending on the size of the bridge and your oral health, we may be able to create and place your traditional restoration in a single appointment.
If you are eligible for treatment, we will begin by administering a local anesthetic to ensure optimal comfort. We will then reshape the teeth on either side of the gap in preparation for dental crowns. This process involves removing a small portion of enamel. Next, we can take digital impressions of your smile using advanced CEREC® technology. With these scans, we can create a 3-D replica of your custom bridge, choosing a shade that blends seamlessly with your smile. Once we are satisfied with the details of your design, we can send this information to our in-office milling machine, which will carefully carve your bridge from a block of ceramic.
In less than one hour, your custom restoration will be ready for placement. Before securing your dental bridge, we will check proper fit and color to ensure the best results. If no modifications are needed, we can fix your bridge in place using dental cement, revealing a beautifully enhanced smile.
Why Replace Missing Teeth?
Missing teeth can cause dental discomfort and make routine activities like speaking and eating challenging. However, a dental bridge can help to restore form and function to your smile. After tooth loss, your jawbone naturally begins to deteriorate. This process leaves you at risk of developing dental complications, such as misalignment, infection, and structural damage to your face and smile. By replacing missing teeth with dental implants and an implant-supported bridge, you can preserve your jawbone and your overall oral health.
